Light has been used for healing since 1500 A.D. According to Rig-Veda Sanskrit document, Sanitir, a god of the sun, was worshipped in India. He was believed to be a divine physician, who kept away disease and healed with the power of the sun.

Hippocrates practiced heliotherapy in a roofless gallery, with an opening to the sick ward.

Galen in 150 A.D. prescribed sun baths for his patients.

Henri de Mondeville used red light to treat smallpox in the 13th century, which he learned from the Chinese.

Neils Ryberg Finsen became the Father of Actinotherapy in 1892. Actinotherapy was the application of red light, used in the lessening of scarring; and shortening the duration of smallpox disease.

Before World War II, Europeans used cold neon red light to stimulate tissue growth.

Charles Townes shared the 1964 Nobel Prize for inventing the laser along with two Russian scientists.

Charles Gould was also credited for the invention of the laser.

Both Charles Gould and Charles Townes worked at Columbia University at the same time.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the "photophone". The "photophone", conveyed information over wires powered by light. Charles Townes was sitting across from A. G. Bell's former home, when he scribbled down the idea of laser. He did this in Washington D.C. early one morning on a park bench. He scribbled it on an envelope out of his back pocket.

Dr. Theodore Maiman used the first laser 1960 while working at the Hughes Corporation.

The ruby laser was the first laser used.

Dr. Endre Mester of Hungary in 1965 was the fourth physician to use a laser and became the Father of Laser Biostimulation.

Laser biostimulation is now known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT).

Low Level Lasers are used in wound healing, arthritis treatment and pain management.
